Privacy Policy
Overview
Welcome to the Lantern privacy policy ("Privacy Policy"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, maintain, disclose and protect the information collected from you via the lanternpowermonitor.com website, our web services, and our mobile applications. Please read this Privacy Policy carefully. By accessing and using our website or mobile application, you acknowledge that you have read, understand and agree to be bound to all of the terms of this Privacy Policy.
If you do not agree with anything in this policy, your only option is to stop using Lantern.
What Information We Collect
Account - We use your e-mail address as an account identifier. The only reason we would send you an e-mail is if you submit a password reset request. Using an e-mail address allows us to use other single-sign on providers to make it easier for you to log in. The mobile application also collects your time zone so that the daily energy summaries can be created with the correct hour offset. We do not collect any other information about you. We do not need, want, nor collect your name, where you live, nor any other demographic information. We just need a unique identifier for you to make sure we can prevent anyone else from accessing your account.
Breaker Box Info - In order to track your power, we need to know the layout of your breaker box. After you configure your panel, that configuration will be used to build graphs and summaries to help you understand your power usage.
Use of Your Information
The data we collect will be used to allow you to access the application and to view your own power usage. This data will not be shared with nor sold to anyone.
Security
You and anyone you share your account with will be the only ones who have external access to the data. Your data is kept on a secure server and we use industry standard security to ensure no one else can access it (BCrypt for salted hashed passwords and AES-256 for access tokens). Technically we here at Lantern can also view your data, but the only reason we would do so is to help you troubleshoot any issues you're having. We could encrypt the data with a private key that only lives on your phone to guarantee you're the only one who can access the data, but it would be a ton of work, would make the platform slower, would make it more likely for all of your data to be lost (if you lose the key), and presently, we don't really see it as necessary. Let us know if we're wrong.
We are based in and our servers are located in the United States of America. If you are from the European Union or other regions of the world with laws governing data collection and use that may differ from U.S. law, and you are creating an account on Lantern, please note that any personally identifiable information that you provide to us will be transferred to the United States. Any such personally identifiable information provided will be processed and stored in the United States by us or a service provider acting on our behalf. By providing your personally identifiable information, you hereby specifically and expressly consent to such transfer and processing and the uses and disclosures set forth herein.
